Boulder City Website Gets a Makeover

Boulder City website redesign

BOULDER CITY – We all have busy schedules, so making time to visit City Hall in person can be challenging. The City of Boulder City website, www.bcnv.org, gets more visits yearly. Today, the City launched a redesigned website, the culmination of a seven-month effort to provide simplified navigation, easier access, and an easy-to-read look. Some of the changes include:

  • The font – Open Sans – is great for print and web and is easier to read in small font sizes.
  • The design team increased the font size from 14 to 16 for better visibility.
  • Widgets to the most used links now appear higher on the landing page. Users no longer need to scroll to find the most-viewed or most-requested pages.
  • The center search bar includes links to high-profile pages and can be changed regularly based on highly searched terms (i.e., “Damboree” in July.)
  • Social Media icons float on the left side for better visibility.
  • The calendar is bigger and provides more detail about immediate upcoming events.

The website is built on a design platform from CivicPlus, the leading U.S. government website provider with 12,000 customers, reaching 340 million users worldwide.  “It was especially important to me that staff cleaned up the website for easier navigation in the months leading up to the aesthetic redesign,” said Taylour Tedder, City Manager. “Staff eliminated pages that were no longer useful and worked with CivicPlus to find and repair broken links.   As a result, City staff has noticed fewer calls from the public asking how to find.”

The palette uses colors from the City seal and shades that complement it. Employees from every department worked with Communications staff, looking at best practices in other communities and ways to tie in our community's beauty and historical value. The platform uses a mobile design so users can easily navigate and interact with content from any desktop computer, smartphone, or tablet.
