BOULDER CITY – Impairment and speeding are the top two causes of fatal accidents in Nevada so far this year. These tragedies can be avoided. Boulder City Police Department received a grant in the amount of $27,500 from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety to support law enforcement’s participation in the Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns during the coming year.

Joining Forces is a high visibility, multi-jurisdiction statewide effort to reduce injuries and fatal accidents on Nevada’s roads by increasing enforcement and awareness of traffic laws. Officers from numerous agencies focus on violations including speeding, pedestrian safety, distracted driving and impaired driving through Selective Traffic Enforcement Programs (STEP), Saturation Patrols, and checkpoints.

The grant pays for overtime whenever Boulder City Police Officers are involved in Joining Forces traffic enforcement activities through September 30, 2024. “Boulder City is grateful to have participated in the Joining Forces Program seventeen years in a row now,” said Boulder City Police Chief Tim Shea. “We believe that through these efforts, we can help our communities by preventing accidents or injuries. By stopping a driver who is impaired or intoxicated, speeding, or has a child in the car who is not properly restrained, it is our hope that our contact will foster change.”

Law enforcement personnel will continue to enforce traffic safety laws year-round as part of their commitment to reduce crashes and save lives. Whether you are a driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian, the Boulder City Police Department reminds everyone to make safety on our roadways a top priority.

Joining Forces motto is “Any Cop, Any Place, Any Time.” More information about safe driving and the state’s Zero Fatalities goal is available online at www.ZeroFatalitiesNV.com.
