Every year in May, various organizations and municipalities across the country celebrate Preservation Month through events that promote historic places and heritage tourism, and that demonstrate the social and economic benefits of historic preservation. Preservation Month began as National Preservation Week in 1973 and in 2005, the National Trust for Historic Preservation extended the celebration to the entire month of May and declared it Preservation Month.
Normally held in May, Boulder City celebrated Historic Preservation Month in October, 2020 due to COVID-19. The 2020 Historic Preservation Award was presented virtually by the Boulder City Historic Preservation Committee. The public can still celebrate with virtual tours of four local properties that represent the community’s dedication to promoting and preserving Boulder City’s unique history.
The Boulder City Historic Preservation Committee aids property owners in maintaining and enhancing Boulder City historical resources including properties located within the District. In 2019, Boulder City became a Certified Local Government and is working in partnership with local, state and national governments to promote historic preservation efforts.
